Fall Classic

By Nay Torious The Educator

America’s favorite pastime a former pastime of mine
Looking back it was some of my favorite times
Not old enough but good enough so they let me play
I remember dreaming of playing in the fall classic some day
Man those where special times the era of Killabrew, Yastrzemski and
The great Willie Mays
Richie Allen, Ernie Banks, Mike Schmidt, Ferguson Jenkins,
We are talking back when Joe Torre played
And the great Lou Brock stealing third base
Steve Carlton, Willie Stargell, Roberto Clemente
And Bob Gibson throwing bee bee’s past your face
The miracle Mets the dominating Baltimore Orioles
The Big Red Machine and The perennial Yankee threat
The curse of the goat and the Cubs haven’t won
The sox cursed for trading the babe but finally broke through
The Anaheim Angels won in 2002
The shame of the Black Sox turned white in 05
When the first Latino manager Ozzie Guillen arrived
It makes me think back to seventy-four
When the Oakland A’s won with a 1 to 0 score
Rollie Fingers, Reggie Jackson plus Vida Blue
Joe Rudy, Catfish Hunter and a hell of a crew
Campaneris, Sal Bando, Ray Fosse, Gene Tenace
In 2003 to the Yankees the Marlins where a menace
Here’s the wind up and here’s the pitch
And it’s a long fly ball back, back, back and it’s over
The Yankees traded for Reggie now he’s Mr. October
The champ of 06 reigns from my hometown St. Louis
Write about the fall classic I’m more than glad to do this
Marching toward the classic and chasing a pennant
The Indians, Red Sox, D-Backs and Rockies are in it
Who will be the winner of the classic in 07
What ever teams wins I hope it goes seven
My love for this game runs extra deep
I’ll see you at the ballgame in my front row seat
